Tortoise is an Avant rock ensemble from Chicago, founded in 1990 and consisting of Dan Bitney, Doug McCombs, Jeff Parker, John Herndon and John McEntire. Former members include Bundy K. Brown and David Pajo. To describe the music of tortoise in a better way, the term »postrock« was invented.
