Plastic Love Records
Plastic Love Records is an American record label from Los Angeles, founded in 2014 by the DJs Bas and Jimmy Maheras. Even before the two friends published their first release, they had to eradicate a flaw in their home town. Plastic Love began as a series of parties, which filled a gap in the club scene and simultaneously covered a pretty wide musical spectrum. »We had booked DJs like Levon Vincent and Horse Meat Disco« recalls Maheras. However, the fun should not be neglected even at the hardest Techno evening. »Even when we have ‘serious’ bookings, we don’t take it too seriously. They are still parties!« Which were indeed initiated with the thought of turning it into a label at some-point and mutated instantly into a test platform. »One night Jimmy played a track which he just worked on. I really liked it, so it only made sense to start a label with that song«, explains Bas.
Maheras’ work also dominates the catalogue from Plastic Love, the label however should in no way function as a launching pad for his own ego. The focus however lies clearly on Los Angeles, where the family around Plastic Love is constantly growing. For example under the name Cazion, Maheras collaborated with the duo Photocall for a UK Rave-nostalgia infected 12", on Disco-Grooves Michael Walsh dedicates himself to electroids sounds. [We have always put more focus on quality rather than quantity”, says Bas. »There are so many labels out there, that publish an EP once a month, sometimes more, which flush your ears with music that could be considerably better.« The two also put a lot of value on the often shrill, retro-futuristic design of their records. »We simply like it when something sticks out«, Bas agrees. That corresponds with their musical requirement, which is less geared towards genre-sensitivities and more towards diversity. »Plastic Love stands for a diverse sound, which is the mix that we also play: House, Electro, Techno, Breakbeats. All that, what we love.« In the end, that’s how everything started.
