Macadam Mambo is a French record label founded by Sacha Mambo and Guillaume Des Bois in 2009 in Paris. Macadem Mambo emerged from a club night series, that was initiated in Paris and continued later on in Lyon.

»We decided to make a real label out of Macadam Mambo because we wanted to also release our own edits and later our own productions«, explains Sacha Mambo mundanely. The slogan of the imprint, which specialises in fancy disco, brings the priorities to the point: »L’important dans la vie c’est de continuer de danser!«, in English: The important thing in life is to continue to dance. A quotation which goes back to the former public enemy no.1 Jacques Mesrine. »I don’t know whether it really represents our philosophy, but everyone understands what’s behind it; to find the best music which catapults our listeners into new dimensions, where curiosity, looniness, risks, bravery and surprises become the most important ingredients in their life or at least night life.«

A Macadam Mambo release must therefore be the opposite of boring and be better than just good; genres play a great part in the selection. Post-punk, reggae, disco, techno and pop find themselves in the back catalogue, most of the artists are known personally to the label’s operators, who split their work evenly among themselves. [I must already be sure, that they vouch for something, which I can myself identify with”, says Sacha Mambo. »That they for example are mates or producers and not only geeks, who would desperately like to produce a record on a cool label.« Great attention to detail is also paid to several series of the main label. The edits, trax and LPs are neatly distinguished and given a personal touch by Sacha Mambo’s artwork, which for him should most of all be coherent. According to Sacha Mambo it is not intentional that the focus is equally often placed on exotic looking records as well as exotic sounding ones. »We have released a lot of European disco stuff alongside eastern or far eastern«, he admits. »But regardless of origin and genre affiliation we are mainly concerned with releasing music which is obscure, unknown, special and groovy!«
