Crooked Cat Records
Crooked Cat Records is a record label founded in 2013 by Jan Jungermann and Felix Schweinlin from the German city of Freiburg. Jan Jungermann solely leads the record label with the backing from his circle of friends. The MC T-Max from Boston has now been in contact with the active DJ Jan Jungermann for over one year. He mentioned in a conversation that he had two unreleased albums from the years 1993 and 1996 and looked for Jan Jungermann for a way to release these vinyls into the public domain. »I am actually a carpenter and my biggest passion is for music and vinyls.« says Jan Jungermann in an interview and he goes on to say »I find it important to give music a physical space«. So he wrote to all kinds of record labels and inquired about their interest in a release of these lost works of T-Max. The only problem was, that they all had something else to do; so the determined Jungermann and his partner bought the demos themselves and had them self-published.
Since then, Jan Jungermann continued to follow his passion. Sooner or later, when a demo falls into his hands, which suits his taste and is of 100% satisfaction to him, he will purchase it and publish it on Vinyl. »Selling things, which one doesn’t like, that can also be done in any industry, such as Carpentry« says Jungermann. In addition, Crooked Cat Records in Freiburg takes care of five cats which live on the street; worrying for their well-being (feeding them) as well as their health (taking them to the vet). In addition in Freiburg, a small network has formed around Jan Jungermann and his label, in which they meet at least once a week to put on records, to honour music and to celebrate life. And everyone chips in, whether it is helping with the artwork or with drafting the license agreement or with the sound recording and mastering. »It’s dope if there is some money left over, then the cats can have some expensive food!«
