Brownswood Recordings is a London-based record label, founded in 2006 by DJ and radio personality Gilles Peterson. Brownswood is already Peterson’s third record label. In 1988 he founded the label Acid Jazz Records with Eddie Piller. Bands like Jamiroquai, Brand New Heavies and Corduroy were signed to it. Afterwards Peterson worked with artist including 4Hero, MJ Cole, Roni Size’ Reprazent, Galliano and The Roots on his second label called Talkin’ Loud, which became one of the most influential record labels of the late 1990s. Finally, in 2006, Peterson founded Brownswood Recordings, named after a street in the North London. He finally managed it to bring together all the different styles on one label and releases records from many different groove-based genres of popular music through Brownswood Recordings.
