Vibrações De Prata

Principe • 2023

»Vibrações De Prata«, silver vibrations, is the title of this album, which sounds almost shockingly ethereal on the Lisbon label’s catalogue. Until now, Principe Discos has been known more for hard, often broken beats that come from the suburbs of the Portuguese capital, where mainly the descendants of immigrants from the former colonies live—the word ghetto is not too far from the mark.

XEXA is the name of a young musician from Lisbon with roots in Sao Tome and Principe and several years of study in London on her CV. It was there, that she began working on this wonderful album, which takes up the »Fourth World« ideas of Jon Hassell and Brian Eno in equal terms and seeks its own paths in shimmering soundscapes that pulsate warmly and are rhythmically complex. The nine-minute finale has dreamlike and dark undertones and can do without the heavy beats of her label colleagues. An album for intensive listening, not one for the dance floor.
