Vicious Pink

Unexpected

Minimal Wave • 2024

Unexpected: That was the reaction of synth-pop fans when Josephine Warden announced a new release last year. It was her second since the turn of the millennium. The Anglo-French singer is part of the infamous duo Vicious Pink, who rocked the clubs in the 1980s and released their only self-titled album in 1986. Together with keyboarder Brian Moss, the pair started out as backup singers for Soft Cell before producing their own dance tracks, which would become ingrained in the soul of synth-pop.

Now, in 2024, Vicious Pink are releasing »Unexpected«, an album of previously unreleased tracks from the 1980s, set to the disco stage of today. Retro fans are scrambling to get their hands on one of the 999 copies that the label has limited. Since the 2022 release of »West View«, which featured the first batch of unreleased demos, the disco youngsters have been waiting for more. With »Not Your Kind Of Girl«, »Unexpected« even includes a new song that fits in effortlessly with the sparkling sound of the other nine tracks on the album: All in all »Slightly Ahead«, but also a bit of »Chaos 303«.
