Untold

Change In A Dynamic Environment Pt.3

Hemlock Recordings • 2012

Tape of the Year 2023

Finally, it has arrived: the great finale of the »Change In A Dynamic Environment«-trilogy. After the glorious first part and the somewhat down-to-earth second one, the expectations for the finishing of Untold’s excursions couldn’t be much higher. »Kane« on the a-side starts out like a dirty punk-rock-song. Then it turns into a spherical postrock-techno-bouncer while getting its nose bloody from the brazen-faced vibration of the bass of »Motion The Dance« (the first part of the trilogy) until coming to an end via the dark side of the moon, trance. It’s nothing that would destroy a club, but instead a delicate and flowing journey through previous stylistic periods. »Overdrive« on the b-side also starts with a punky bass, but then drifts off into industrial fields in order to allow metallic robot-brigades to stamp through the apocalyptic prairie. When listening closely, you can hear a little old Jega and a compacted Amon Tobin from 2001. Either way – it’s a gloomy, perfidious monster with sparks of funk all the way up its ass, which definitely ends too early after only five minutes. In the end, the »Change In A Dynamic Environment«-trilogy presents Untold in a different light. A light, which we would sure like to get to know better.
