TNGHT

TNGHT

Warp • 2012

Recruit them all: The Wocka Flockas, the Chief Keefs, 8Ball & MJG; then lock them into a cage and play them TNGHT. Energy problem solved! Letting Hudson Mohawke’s and Lunice’s beats mate with the roar of some Trap-Rappers gone wild should do to provide the whole of Georgia with power. But even without »Wocka, Wocka, Wocka, Paow, Paow, Paow« it’s a constant explosion; Star Wars in lowriders. Or the soundtrack of a Matrix movie, starring Lil Jon as Agent Smith, stripping off Neo’s leather coat with the help of the Eastside Boys. Five tracks and it’s all an uninterrupted stomping, whistling, booming. Trance and 8-Bit meets Traprap-Instrumentals meets the sound of a herd of buffalos on party drugs. Sometimes the drums sound tinny, sometimes they sound dull, but they always master masses of speakers. All of it is accompanied by epileptic HudMo-Signature-Synths and: Game over. »TNGHT« blasts off the tops of testosterone-test tubes; you just have to destroy things listening to it. It makes you drink alcohol out of a petrol can and dance a gorilla dance along the well swept boardwalks of the city. When the EP suddenly stops after 16 minutes, you find yourself embarrassingly standing in a fountain without a shirt on. That’s okay, though – letting yourself get out of hand for a quarter of an hour seems pretty worthwhile.
