The Doppelgangaz

HARK

Groggy Pack/ hhv.de • 2013

Despite or maybe because of the fact that EP and Matter Ov Fact seem to enjoy bald XXL-Barbies and disgusting stories, they are both very likable. Once you find the wink that is hiding behind their mystical behavior, their music becomes even more fun. On their new record »HARK«, The Doppelgangaz consistently follow their musical and lyrical direction. Proceeding as normal, their warm and dirty, sampled Boom-Bap-beats are accompanied with new anecdotes of the Groggy Pack. All that is enhanced by lots of vinyl-cracking, fierce coughing or other unpleasant noises and small but nice interludes. Especially the last-mentioned are used quite frequently, which is why the record is very entertaining despite its consistent musical frame. Those who still didn’t get enough of the typical, relaxed Doppelgangaz-sound, will very much enjoy this record. The only downside is that the sharks from New York’s underground only delight us for a very short time with their new material – the record is not even 40 minutes long. By the way: Just like »Lone Sharks«, »HARK« works best when you’re going home from a wild party in the early hours of a Sunday – tired, boozed and happy.
