Strategy is no single-track-artist. There won’t come a time when you’ll look back and say „remember that one Strategy track?” And yet, for a good decade now, Paul Dickow a.k.a. Strategy has released various LPs for various labels, such as Kranky, Peak Oil, 100% Silk or his very own Community Library. And he’s best when he’s got room to unfold. »Seeds Of Paradise« is his ninth record in ten years. And it’s really good. Of course, his Œuvre has always been stylistically multifaceted, held together by a common interest in the future, paradoxically often realized through the use of old synthesizers on the one hand and antiquated sounds on the other. This kind of retro-futurism is also to be found on »Seeds Of Paradise«, the first record after the 12" »Return From The Stars« with which he returned to the label Idle Hands in Bristol. And while the 12"drifted along in a sea of unknown sounds between the Balearic Islands and the Caribbean (in a mix of dub, cosmic, ambient and house), the intended construction of the 12’’ was turned into a magical and complete picture on this LP. Maybe a nature analogy helps to get it straight: The point is, you can only see the tides from a far-awy perspective. When there’s a falling tide on one side of the world, the tide is rising on the other side. However, if you narrow down your perspective, you’ll either see the tide falling or rising, you’ll see nothing but lapping water. Of course, it’s nice to look at – but there’s no cognition, no enlightenment to gain. With »Seeds Of Paradise«, that’s different: You have to listen to it from beginning to end, and you’ll soon find yourself having a “Euraka”-moment.
