Steve Moore

Eye of Horus

L.I.E.S. • 2024

Steve Moore has mastered the art of stretching time, or to use the words of his contemporary Peter Gebert, boredom, as no other producer has. With Steve Moore, things hold together in a wondrous way between static, stretching and funk-based acceleration. With »Pangaea Ultima« in 2013, he produced one of the most significant science fiction albums to date, which has an enduring futuristic sound. With »Eye of Horus«, he has now released a mini-album, which builds on his previous work combining ambient, cosmic music and techno.

The elements that make up Steve Moore’s magic not only stretch and overstretch the patterns, beats and everything else associated with dance. At least as important is the manageable number of simultaneous events and the courage to take pauses that generously leave room for nothing but vulgar silence, as on »Point Dune« which courageously opens the album. Club music works effortlessly with this approach, even if, or perhaps because, on a track like »The Blue Stone« the patterns are just as stoic, except the beat and creaky staccato bass give it a different dynamic. May the boredom be with him for eternity.
