New-York-doyen Sean Price has released a new solo-album: it’s a collection of endless punchlines and your-mother-sayings on crashing boom-baps – and it’s not a single bit boring. Just because the man really knows how to cut the mustard. We can even ignore the fact that the cover really is damn ugly. It shoes price with a mic full of blood, which he apparently used to strike down a horde of gorillas. At least it’s a nice allegory for what the musician from New York has been doing for years and years with steady and straightforward consistency. What applies to Will Ferell also applies to Sean Price: the angrier he is, the more entertaining for us. His very slow flow still won’t punch us out of our seats, but the 40-years-old rapper is so damn grimey that even Noreaga could do with an extra lesson. In addition, he got himself the créme de la créme of the most important producers to back him up in the ring. Alchemist refines some of the – maybe otherwise somewhat boring – tracks with vocal samples, like on »Bully Rap«, Evidence and DJ Babu add the beat to the »BBQ Sauce«, on which rap-heavy-weight Pharoahe Monch is also part of the mix (unfortunately only in the chorus). Other than that, and apart from only tiny bloopers (like the hook in »Hush«), everything fits well together.
