It doesn’t seem like a good sign when a couple that makes music together names their album »Lucifer« just after their son is born (»Rosemary’s Baby« says Hi). The tracks on the album, though, allow a far more enjoyable interpretation – they sound truly relaxed and psychedelic. Lucifer used to be an archangel and as the morning star, he is associated to Venus. »Lucifer, son of the morning«, as we hear it on the Reggae-classic »Chase the Devil« by Max Romeo. And the fact that Reggae (or rather: Dub) is a main influence on the album, is mainly audible on the track »LO HI«. Trailing off voices and echo-effects, heavy basslines and meandering songs, which all cross the 6-minute-mark, except the first and the last track – all of this stands for a psychedelic Dub-approach. The names of the intro and the outro, »Moonrise« and »Morning Star«, rather refer to nights spent awake with the baby than to satanic characteristics of the new-born. In addition to that, some baby babble is used as an extra brick in the wall of sound and one of the tracks is named »Beautiful Son«, which makes the parental pride explicit, and the offspring is productively used. And, just like him, this album is a real »Grower«.
