Lobster Theremin • 2014

Tape of the Year 2023

It’s only been a year since the British label Lobster Theremin has started to release 12-inches by acts like Palms Trax, Daze and lately Imre Kiss, but it’s already impossible to imagine the house-scene without it. Panthera Krause is yet another freshman whose debut is being released on the – rightfully – hyped label. The Leipzig-based musician, who is also involved in the indie-band Marbert Rocel as well as in Appendix Karocel (which was pimped through a few extra members) and who has drawn our attention through his release on Riotvan, is producing his music in the spirit of a timeless sound. On his »Rules«-EP, he is joyfully surfing across warm basslines and shuffling grooves, while touching upon everything from Chicago to Hamburg which bears traditions and depth. As often the case with Lobster Theremin, this is no soundtrack for sweaty peak-times, but instead for the early morning hours, when the remaining euphoria reflects the first sunbeams of the day and when the body basically dances on its own. With a relaxed über-hit like »Them Flutes«, this could go on for hours. We can only hope to be hearing more of Panthera Krause soon – because with his style, oldschool yet unique, he could even steal Kassem Mosse’s thunder one day.
