P.O.S. is a punk. It could be interpreted as an insult in the HipHop-context, but has a completely different meaning in the eyes of the Doomtree-member from Minneapolis: With a radical attitude, he is against the establishment and full of deconstructionism. His last three records helped him to break the things that have broken him – in an artistic-violent manner. Nothing has changed on »We Don’t Even Live Here Anymore«, on which he also proclaims the end of the world in spoken-word-passages, his middle finger sticking out. In »Fuck Your Stuff«, he spits in your food, steals your Nikes and constructively criticizes the contemporary mind state of HipHop (»Lookin’ out the window like Malcolm/Just when I thought this culture was open, they go and doubt ‘em«). And even though our hopeless situation has neither changed much within the world‘s conservative moral concepts, nor within the cyclic states of crises, Stefon Alexander just doesn‘t want to give up the fight on his fourth record. The 31-years-old musician sounds much more hopeful and optimistic than suicidal. »How We Land« with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver almost cheesily summarizes the history of evolution and »Fire In The Hole/Arrow To The Action« borderlines the term Crossover. The coherent sound-concept, created by P.O.S. together with Kayne West’s home engineer Andrew Dawson, collapses with the housy and electronic last third of the record, produced by Boys Noize & Housemeister. As important the rebellion of the rhymesayer might be in our cynical times, the musical implementation on »WDELHA« remains meaningless.
