Ocean Moon is a moniker for Lo Recordings founder and long-time sonic adventurer Jon Tye, who has been releasing music in various guises for over three decades. With »Ways To The Deep Meadow« he explores deeply immersive ambient sound environments with elements that often progress in a gently linear fashion. The first five tracks are shorter compositions that explore the boundary between the organic and the synthetic. Created at a time when Jon Tye was contemplating the growing role of AI in society, they explore the role of consciousness.
Opener »Ways To The Deep Meadow« exemplifies Ocean Moon’s detailed and evocative approach to composition, as the sound of rainfall meets gentle synth washes before bright arpeggios cut through and take over. Midway through the album, Tye moves away from pure ambient territory to deliver »Day Of The Voyage« and »Plains Of Paradise«, both of which combine his signature floating yet uplifting sounds with light percussive elements. The latter part of the album comprises two longer compositions, »Made In Dreams« and »An Ending Full Of Light«, which were originally composed for an exhibition and a film respectively. Both pieces wander and explore throughout their extended running times, creating wide open soundscapes that hang in the atmosphere, leaving room for the listener to contemplate. With »Ways To The Deep Meadow«, Tye has delivered a beautiful capsule of ambient sounds that lend themselves perfectly to deep headphone listening.
