I Remember Gino/Pleasures In Africa

Sound Metaphors • 1991

The sun is shining, countless people are pushing through the streets, their movements seeming monotonous and hypnotic. This is the scene that unfolds in the first 30 seconds of the A-side of Neuro State’s “I Remember Gino/Pleasures In Africa”. The 4-track EP immediately immerses you in the atmosphere of the 90s rave scene. Remastered by Man Made Mastering in Berlin and now re-released on Sound Metaphors Records with new artwork, the record is heavily influenced by Detroit, Italy, Berlin and Chicago.

Originally released on the Italian label Interactive Test, it offers a wide spectrum of house music, starting with a dynamic production of Chicago underground and deep house. The Percapella mix that follows is a tribute to Canadian disco legend Gino Soccio and features an extensive sample of his song “There’s a Woman”. The EP impresses with its stylistic diversity: while some tracks explore Balearic and Italo house elements, the B-side unfolds in a playful acid house style. Innovative 90s synths, driving percussion and repetitive voice samples give the record a particularly nostalgic touch. But it’s still an absolute classic today.
