Necro

The Murder Murder Kill Kill EP

Psycho Logical/ hhv.de • 2012

Ill Bill’s younger brother is back with a new double-EP! Of course, we’re talking about Necro and his new release »The Murder Murder Kill Kill EP«. Everyone who has had a peak into the catalog of Necro’s label Psycho Logical Records (which appears to represent the Dark Side of Hip Hop) should know what that means. Morbid raps, broaching the issue of violent, sexual and drug-soaked blunders, are carried by traditionally produced Boom-Bap-beats and presented by a gaudy artwork, reminiscent of metal releases from the 80s. Yet again, Necro has proven his good touch in choosing samples so that the tracks on this new double-EP sound like a slasher-movie having turned into music. Of course, this means that there’s almost no soul or funk as basic material. Instead, you can find rocky basslines and sounds from psychedelic grounds. From that perspective, the new record is absolutely characteristic of Necro: Even though »The Murder Murder Kill Kill EP« provokes and shocks the listener in the most simple ways, it still gains its value through a unique and timeless soundscape. Naturally, »Preppy Rappers and hip homo Hippies« – as Necro describes them in »Rock the Kazbah« – won’t be too thrilled. But that’s exactly what its creator was aiming for. $$ Necro is supported by label-mate Mr Hide (with whom he forms the unholy ally „Gruesome Twosome“ on »Gore!«) and by old-school-legend Kool G Rap, who had already added a kind of mobster mentality to the game of rap in the late eighties. Apparently, it’s just too tempting, this dark side.
