Three tracks, 36 minutes of runtime, one musician, one multi-neck guitar, and a seemingly endless web of loops and layers. That’s »Flamenca«, the ambient-psychedelia LP by Pierre Bujeau, released under the project name Megabasse on the excellent Australian label Efficient Space.
Part one, »L’Último Sacrifacio«, is a glockenspiel-like, 23-minute trip based on a more or less unchanging fingerpicked chord sequence, accompanied by lush, atmospheric textures that Bujeau seemingly triggers via pre-recorded loops using a foot pedal. Part two, »Marcia, Baila, Suogna« (ten minutes), follows the same pattern of persistent fingerpicking. The accordion-like background loops evoke the soundscape of a harbour: contemplative, slightly more grounded – seagulls circling overhead, the taste of cider, the sea in view. Time clearly doesn’t matter here.
While parts one and two had previously circulated on CDs and tapes, they were hard to come by. »Suogna Piazzata« is newly recorded for this LP. As the third and final track, it’s also the shortest at just three minutes – an unhurried, purely acoustic ode that gently closes out this meditative listening record. With »Flamenca«, Bujeau’s work is finally available for those who enjoy dissolving into the carpet while listening.
