Max Graef

Natural Element

Tartelet • 2024

»Natural Element« began as a mixtape project by Max Graef and has evolved into a work that retains the raw energy of a mixtape while offering a thoughtful, conceptual sonic journey. Also of interest: »Natural Element« coincides with the tenth anniversary of his acclaimed debut album, »Rivers of the Red Planet«, which is still considered a landmark.

Although he has remained true to his style in many ways on his third album, with plenty of funk as in »Sports (Is Good For You)«, Max Graef ingeniously combines it with organic psychedelia, dreamy chords and elaborate soundscapes, as in tracks such as »We Are The World (Test Drive)« or the slow, atmospheric »Zitar«. The moving and hopeful track »Gaza International Airport« shows that Graef is also concerned with current affairs.
