No one can be expected to listen to music that is taxing when it is well over 30 degrees Celsius. There is even the fear that fast, strongly syncopated rhythms, piercing frequencies and violent dissonances can have adverse effects on a person’s health in the presence of unfavourable physical dispositions. Yet even if you are sufficiently resilient to withstand acoustic aggressions, there is no denying that some music is better suited to tropical temperatures than others. After an early drum’n’bass phase, English producer Mark Barrott, who has made various stops from Berlin to Uruguay and now lives on the island of Ibiza, has been reliably making his presence felt with very well-honed Balearic sounds for some years now. On his EP »Travelling Music«, Mark Barrott remains true to his appreciative approach to relaxation at a moderate tempo. Especially on the title track, the discreet mixing of different synthesiser surfaces ensures constant, yet unagitated movement. Ideal for journeys without an external change of location. And you can also dance a little to »Arcade Scene« if you want to. Just enough to hold a cocktail glass filled to the brim in your hand without spilling the contents.
