On The Alexander Green Project, Kaimbr & Kev Brown exclusively use Al Green Samples – it doesnt’ seem to matter that those have already been turned to account everywhere in the producer’s world from the RZAs to Kanye West. Quite the opposite, really. Of course, the album sounds somewhat aged and as if everything on it has been done before. But 2011 is still the right year for a tribute to Al Green. In times when the influence of electronic music’s progressiveness is reflected everywhere, not even mentioning the area of Rap-music having sold itself to the re-invention of Euro-Pop à la Guetta, this very earthly Hip Hop smells of fresh life. On fourteen tracks, Kaimbr, with the support of a few low-budget crew members like Kenn Starr and Sean Born or The Kid Daytona and Asher Roth, raps relaxed on top of souly Al Green vocal-snippets or organs or whatever other instruments the singer from Arkansas felt like using at the time. At many points, the listener can feel the fun that the rappers must have had with this heartfelt project shimmering through lyrics and flow. On Audio Background, Kaimbr raps: »We are in the spot, no need to change, †˜cause this is from the heart«. And finally, this is exactly where the strength of this album lies. The Alexander Green Project was made placidly and without the greater purpose to tear down any walls, it’s here for us to easily bounce along, while in very dignified manner, it always leans on the souly warmth given by the omnipresent Al Green.
