Jamie xx

In Colours

Young Turks/XL Recordings • 2015

Why quote rave-culture? Either you go out raving or you quote a book. When Jamie xx burps on a rave, he probably says »Oopsy Daisy«. Bashing Jamie xx is neither especially perky nor is it new – but still, oh my gosh, he deserves being bashed, even if it’s only bashing for the bashing’s sake. This… incredibly talented, poised guy, who has created a new sound with The xx and who still manages to step out of his band’s shadow as a solo artist. So now, there’s his debut. And »In Colour« has got it all: beautiful melodies, basses that make the coco-crust jump out of your nose, mood and felicitous guests. He’s the perfect son in law and you basically just want to beat the shit out of him, teach his lady a few new tricks and take a proper piss in the garden of his disgustingly enthused in-laws. »In Colour« sounds nothing but tasteful. Everything on this record is exquisite. In one moment, you’ve got sweet little Romy saying something really beautiful about love, while she grabs the Young Thug’s ass in the next. And it still fits! Where ever you look, there’s tastefulness: It’s enough to drive you up a wall. Jamie xx is a model student. He’s got it all – aaahaalllll – right. It’s okay to respect that. And to still be disgusted.
