Sibel Koçer is a very popular and busy woman: Under the moniker JakoJako, the DJ, producer and modular synthesiser operator has moved from her residency at Berghain to Bonobo at the Royal Albert Hall, from her position at electro institution SchneidersLaden to dance performance projects or art installations at the Barbican. It’s almost a miracle that the Berlin-based artist has found the time to release this EP in the midst of the hot festival summer.
The four tracks on »Segmente« come straight from her live performances and have already been tried and tested at Berghain. And that’s where their fragile techno fits in perfectly—as dark as it is driving, innovative, a little introverted, yet confident and yes, even functional. »Flux« or »Modus« will definitely get you dancing, but will also make you sit up and take notice. Apart from the meandering and aptly named closing track »Introspektion«, it’s also noticeable how efficiently and modestly JakoJako produces. She gets to the point in between four and five minutes, no melody is too much, nothing goes off track. The synthesis of rise and fall, control and ecstasy is well balanced.
