Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti & Frank Rosaly

Mestizx

International Anthem • 2024

The album is like a search for your roots. Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti is a multidisciplinary artist born in Bolivia and raised in Brazil. Frank Rosaly is a drummer, composer and sound designer born in Arizona to Puerto Rican parents. Both have worked with various artists including Alabaster DePlume, Jaimie Branch, Fennesz, Jeff Parker, Thurston Moore, Nels Cline and Rob Mazurek. Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and Frank Rosaly met in Amsterdam, where they live as musical and domestic partners.

Their debut album, »Mestizx«, is a kind of love letter to their ancestors. It’s the result of a search for their own identity, lost between two culturally different worlds to which Ibelisse and Frank feel they belong. One of these worlds has colonised and oppressed the other for centuries. The duo fuses traditional Latin music with jazz, post-rock, folk and minimal music in a percussive, intense musical patchwork, interpreting the fusion product with a deep inner logic. The fact that this fascinating, eclectic mix of styles is perfectly suited to the International Anthem label is only mentioned for the sake of completeness.
