With Volume X, Eden Burns adds another chapter to the chronology of his»Big Beat Manifesto Series«, which he has been releasing for several years on the Munich label “Public Possession”. And he still manages to locate his sound somewhere between tech-house linearity and trance-like pads, as if someone were sending club music through a prism of sunlight and post-rave melancholy. Eden Burns creates an unmistakable sound that hovers between house, techno, and Balearic, and is particularly notable for its delicate loop aesthetic. Each track feels like a minimalist sketch with maximum effect, as if the essential is constantly unfolding.
The first track on the record, »Head On«, opens Volume X with purposeful dub rhythms that don’t move through space with force, but with steady consistency. The other tracks on the EP also combine precision with playfulness. The contours remain clear, but are interspersed with hazy reductions. This creates a state of suspension that is neither too dark nor too light, and is the unmistakable balance of Burns’ sonic signature. »Big Beat Manifesto Vol. X« is a record that harmonizes opposites – and therein lies its beauty.
