The Other World EP

Return To Disorder • 2023

The opening and title track »The Other World« immediately proves that Donato Basile means business with his new 4-track EP. For Helena Hauff’s Return To Disorder, he undertakes a remarkably vivid dimensional journey into another world, where Electro, accelerating with relish halfway through, collides with a violent jungle break. Then the electro beat again, suddenly decelerated, silence, Drexciyan scrubbing noises, and then on it goes in excess mode. More dramaturgical work was put into this track than would be expected from conventional club tracks. The obscene vocals on »Preserve The Rave« and the hardcore choruses prove that DJ Plant Textures‘s understanding of rave also includes smatterings of humour, as does his love of classic drum machine sounds like the 808 cowbell and the general willingness to quote. Not least the aggressive acid melody evokes J-Zbel. »The Man Of The Street« with feature guest Mike Tansella Jr. develops its appeal less from the vocals or dark synth melody, but mainly from the crazy programmed drumming, which doesn’t fail to make an impact, especially after the cleverly placed break at minute four. The closer piece »Hasta La Vista« also begins with a vocal, perhaps something like the conceptual leitmotif of the EP, but then rumbles towards the end of the release in classic jungle mode and a typical, but not ineffective bass line.
