A fragile voice, lost in reverie, conjures the »Ghosts In The Machine«, credits »Godspeed« with being »so sweet« and rotates »Between Circles« around itself. In short: Death And Vanilla’s EP from 2010 is celebrating it’s re-release on vinyl. The style of the musicians from Malmö, on record and on stage, is an energetic hybrid of psychedelic rock, dark wave, trip hop and the good ol’ rocking-away-heedlessly krautrock-approach. All seven tracks on the EP sound as if Ratatat did a remix of Can under the influence of the Skyrider-Band and then put Anne Clark’s voice (minus its bass) on top of it all. The rhythms derive from an actual drumset combined with channels of Beatprogramming. The guitar takes a back seat in favor of the synths and harmonizes playfully with jingly bells and xylophones. On »Ascend And Descend«, Death And Vanilla drive their spherical rumpus to its dramatic climax. The following »The Dödjens Vaniljsas Theme« then cements the quiet yet aspiring leitmotif. See, you’ll even pick up some Swedish on the way! Those who once bought Broken Social Scene’s »You Forgot It In People«because of »Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl« and were otherwise somewhat disappointed by the record, will finally find what they were originally looking for.
