Dave Aju

Heirlooms

Circus Company • 2012

Marc Barrite from San Francisco is one of the most underestimated producers in the field of electronic music. Under his alias Dave Aju he first released some singles and EP’s on Nôze’ Circus Company and 2008 finally his fabulous debut »Open Wide«, which was received excitedly by the critics, but only interested a few others. Now, the french label has released his second album »Heirlooms«, and again, the news coverage remains alarmingly quiet. Unjustifiably, there was only a handful of people who visited the album release party, but at least they really enjoyed the sound of the American. There’s not much choice when listening to tracks like »All Together Now« (already released in November) or the pumping »Away Away«. Dave Aju’s »Heirlooms« feel at home in a club where they can shake some bodies as well as at home in the bedroom with tracks like »Until Then«. Dave Aju then aspirates a few sexy samples into his mic or he recites Prince or the Neptunes to the full (»Ms. Reposado«) and suddenly, productions become real songs. One of the most souly house-records in a long time – hopefully someone gets that.
