Pine

Guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Daniel Ögren has undoubtedly had a vast influence on the Swedish music scene. He is, of course, the driving force behind the soul-infused outfit Dina Ögren, as well as a frequent collaborator with a wide range of artists from his homeland and around the world, including Anna von Hausswolff, Fatoumata Diawara, Sven Wunder, Daniel Johnston and many more. With ‘Pine’, he delivers a beautifully blissful set of guitar-driven instrumentals that channel the soulful vibes of his main band while taking them in a variety of directions. At times bluesy, at times folky and at times with an element of psychedelia, the album is a true sonic balm. Which is fitting, as Ögren explains that »Pine symbolises a place where I feel at home«.

He cites the music that makes him feel most relaxed as the influence behind the album, including the likes of »Hall & Oates, ABBA, Weather Report and Niki & The Dove«. While Ögren’s blissful guitar jams may feel a good way from these artists, their atmospheres and approaches can be felt in the sonic universe he creates. Highlights include the beautifully seductive guitar work on ‘Monda’ and ‘Haugesund Night Sky’ with its nocturnal feel and deep, echoing bass sound. On Pine, Daniel Ögren delivers a set of tracks that will appeal to fans of Dina Ögren, while bringing in a wide range of personal influences to create a sonic world all his own.
