Cortex is a French band formed in 1974, originally consisting of five members: Alain Mion, Alain Gandolfi, Mireille Dalbray, Alain Labib and Jeff Huttner, although the line-up has changed over the years. Jazz-funk and psychedelic-rock were the genres that Cortex chose for their productions, and their album »Troupeau Bleu« finally brought them to the top in France. The band already announced their break-up in 1981, but toured Europe and the USA in various constellations in the 2000s. »Rare & Lost Tapes« sees the band return to the here and now. The compilation brings together a carefully curated selection of previously unreleased and rare tracks. These include songs that were recorded for television, such as »Mary & Jeff«, or were only available as test pressings in the 70s, such as »Les Oiseaux Morts«. »Rare & Lost Tapes« combines poly-rhythmic instrumentals with groovy textures, creating a dense sound and a big band melancholy to sway to. Recorded in France in the 70s, forgotten over the years, and only to be rediscovered with even greater joy.
