On her début album »Alpha«, Canadian singer/songwriter and producer Charlotte Day Wilson combined influences from gospel, folk and contemporary music in a variety of ways. Three years later, she presents her follow-up album »Cyan Blue« on XL Recordings. As in her musical past, she uses her voice as an instrument, which paradoxically seems more restrained and powerful than ever. Perhaps it’s because of her ability to combine melancholy, bitterness, regret and longing in such a way that everyone can simply fall into Day Wilson’s hypnotic world, depending on their mood.
Warm soul basses, atmospheric electronics and haunting R&B melodies unfold layer by layer. Behind them, a melancholic world opens up, showing a panorama of human and, above all, personal experiences. The title track »Cyan Blue« is an introspective journey in which Wilson illuminates the beauty and frustration of the past with unvarnished words. The colour cyan blue serves as the emotional leitmotif of the album, capturing the different shades of personal relationships. Working with co-producer Jack Rochon, the diversity of instrumentation and production on »Cyan Blue« heralds a new era. Wilson welcomes a creative openness that can only elicit gratitude from the listener.
