Muscle Memory

Dekmantel • 2021

There she turns in, the record of the summer! Cranks down the discs, has a flute of bubbly over the gearshift and roars past us with a grin. Bruxas, that is psychedelic specialist Jacco Gardner and ex-Altın Gün and Afrobeat cannon Nic Mauskovic. They release music that seeks a common denominator between Soviet space disco for cosmonauts and the dreamcatcher vibes of drum festivals for desperate mid-thirties. But with »Muscle Memory« you might as well anchor your private yacht in the harbor of Monaco to cram the four-four drumming into the ears of the chic. In any case, Gardner and Mauskovic, the brothers from different mothers, are on a trip to the 1980s, cooking spaghetti westerns, tapping on the cowbell, wah-wahing on the guitar pedal and blowing the whole shebang into a glass lamp in which the cosmic casts its glistening glow over the past. Clearly, »Muscle Memory« is a record for which you build an opera house in the Peruvian jungle, set up a pop-up pool at Kotti and order Hawaiian shirts at Zalando. Until it finally works out with the summer.
