Aidan Baker is a tireless master of unapproachability. All in all, Discogs mentions 143 releases since 2002, on which the Canadian musician has proven his eccentricity either as a solo artist or together with musicians like Tim Hecker Thisquietarmy, Troum or through his projects Nadja, Caudal and B/B/S. However, Adain Baker often lacked a musical counterpart, someone to frame his creative urges. Leah Buckareff, with whom he has been performing as Nadja since 2003, has managed this task best, so far. Now, he has found a congenial partner in the Austrian musician Markus Steinkellner aka Idklang who knows how to artistically tie up Aidan Bakers escapades with his bluesy guitar. He creates just the right kind of informal frame to tame Aidan Baker’s exuberant arts. What has come out are two tracks of 20 minutes, only formally separated through having to flip the record: »In The Red Room« and »Where We’re From, the Birds Sing A Pretty Song«. Aidan Baker and Idklang pretty much sound like A Silver Mt. Zion without the need for a song, like Godspeed You! Black Emperor without the need for a catharsis or like Set Fire To Flames without the need for a revolution. And still, it’s no l’art pour l’art, considering that the title »In The Red Room« bears way too many associations to be unaffiliated (August Strindberg H.G.Wells »The Amityville Horror« »Twin Peaks« The White House or the Senate of Canada.)
