Over the past ten years, Apollo Brown has become the go-to guy for boom bap. The Detroit producer has collaborated with half of the US underground, most recently releasing the album »…As God Intended« with rapper Che’ Noir from the Griselda environment.
So it is a little surprising that Apollo Brown comes together with the 46-year-old Raheem DeVaughn for the first time with a soul singer on album length and instead of dusty hip hop boards now tickles soulful slow jams from the MPC. “Lovesick” is the title of this collaboration, on which »The Love King« DeVaughn croons his way through the twelve tracks, singing about the ups and downs of a love affair and receiving support from rappers Skyzoo and Westside Boogie.
»Lovesick« is Raheem DeVaughn’s ninth studio album by now and – it’s hard to believe – the first ever by the multi-Grammy-nominated singer to be released on vinyl. From July 23, 2021, the record will then be available in the regular pressing. The teal Coloured Vinyl Edition, limited to 300 copies and exclusively available at HHV Records, will follow a few weeks later.
