With the release of his twelfth album, Eblis Álvarez and his band project Meridian Brothers offer their listeners another piece of musical darkness full of fantasy and emotion. The album, entitled »Mi Latinoamérica Sufre«, will be released on July 12, 2024 in collaboration with Bongo Joe and Ansonia Records. A limited pink vinyl edition will be available exclusively through HHV.
Since 1998, the avant-garde band from Bogotá has been forging new paths through the jungle of Latin American music by mixing different musical styles and shaping their individual sound through alternative playing techniques.
Paths that are always new
Álvarez knows how to bring the joy of experimentation and the playfulness in dealing with established sound structures and melodies into new contexts through “sampling,” as he calls it. The result is a psychedelic sound on the new concept album that also pays homage to Congolese rumba, Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian Afrobeat of the 1970s. Mixed with Latin American rhythms such as cumbia and soukous, the songs merge into an entertaining and humorous exploration of the Afro-Latin American self, forming a natural-sounding symbiosis.
