On August 16, 2024, Efficient Space is to release »Simple Reality«, recordings by the British trio Skeet that were thought to be lost. Skeet means nothing to you? No wonder, because the band broke up before a single song was released. The two brothers Gary and Nigel Meffen, who came from the same punk and 2-tone infected clique in Coventry from as The Specials or The Colourfield, combined dub and post-punk with a Roland CR-8000 in their songs. By chance, singer Kay Booth came across a cassette of their first performance and took the liberty of singing over the instrumentals, becoming the third member of the band.
No bye, no aloha
After a few gigs together, Skeet decided to record the few written songs in his home studio. Record companies showed interest, but then it was already over. The band suddenly split up. The 1981 recordings, reminding of Young Marble Giants or Solid Space, ended up in the archives and were released last year in a small edition on Almost Unknown, the label of Chris Long, another veteran of the aforementioned Coventry clique. »Simple Reality« contains five songs from these recordings as well as three previously unreleased songs, all remastered.
