When Kamaal Williams and Yussef Dayes entered the scene in 2016 with their joint album »Black Focus«, the hype was huge. There the refreshing Drums Dayes’ mixed with the smooth keys of Williams and heralded a new era of British jazz. The separation of the duo followed only one year later and while his former partner has already released one of the most important albums of the year together with Tom Misch in 2020, Kamaal Williams aka Henry Wu will also be back on 24.7. with the album »Wu Hen«, which will be released by HHV Records as an exclusive edition on silver vinyl.
»Wu Hen« is the nickname that Williams’ family had for the later light-figure of the British jazz scene, as part of the family is descended from the Chinese Wu dynasty. As on »The Return«, Kamaal Williams is the bandleader, the musicians on the record are Greg Paul from the Katalyst Collective, Rick Leon James , Quinn Mason and Alina Bzhezhinska, also strings by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson have found their place.
