New Zealand soul singer Jordan Rakei has announced his new album »What We Call Life« on Ninja Tune for September 17, 2021. Exclusively for HHV Records he signs his Transculent Green Vinyl Edition.

Self-awareness to the limit: Jordan Rakei is not only a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer, but also practices meditation and mindfulness. Some time ago, the 29-year-old New Zealander began reading up on »positive psychology.« The result is that he is now releasing his fourth album, »What We Call Life,« on which he deals with the topics he learned about himself in therapy. This is already evidenced by the advance track »Family«, on which Rakei’s voice as usual caresses an endearingly light instrumental along with a warped melody. »I wanted to live out my vulnerability and be really honest,« he said in advance of the album. Of course, the lyrics still remain so cloistered that the number doesn’t become a show of the soul. Nevertheless, the grooved gospel and the beats get close the more often »Family« runs through. The honesty is expressed above all in the sound. Compared to the predecessor “Origin” it sounds more introverted, calmer, deeper. To realize in the end that we all ask ourselves the same questions about life. »What We Call Life« will be released on September 17, 2021 on Ninja Tune. Exclusive to HHV Records (and limited to 150 copies), a signed edition is available in Transculent Green vinyl.
