With groups like the 7-piece Jembaa Groove, you can hear from their music that it thrives on being played live and thankfully, the Afro-soul highlife band play a hometown show in Berlin at Hole 44 on October 24, 2024 to showcase their new album »Ye Ankasa | We Ourselves«.

Founded in late 2020 by Yannick Nolting and Eric Owusu, the Berlin group approach their second album by continuing to blend sounds from the Berlin underground music scene with the traditional West-African sounds of Ghana and Mali to create soulful, heartwarming groove music.

The rousing sound of West Africa

Perhaps in not much of a surprise they achieve this when the group includes former band members of highlife and afrobeat legends Tony Allen, Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas and Orlando Julius. But they call on their Ghanian diaspora with vocalist K.O.G and veteran Gyedu Blay Ambolley adding touches of brilliance to »Sweet My Ear« and »Agya« that both features beautifully soft horn hooks to match the relaxed rhythm section. The result is a distinct, nostalgic Afro sound that fits into both the celestial and contemporary jazz spheres of music.
