Spherical, repetitive, spiritual and driving is the jazz that Gondwana Records is bringing to Berlin’s Gretchen with a pair of newcomer bands on 30 January 2025. The evening will be completed by DJ Mari*, ex-radio producer of Gilles Peterson.
The 14-piece Ancient Infinity Orchestra will fill the stage of the Gretchen to capacity. The name already gives it away: the orchestra’s sound is characterised by a variety of orchestral instruments – from strings to brass and woodwinds, which merge in their playing with inspirations from jazz greats such as Pharoah Sanders and spiritual jazz inventor Alice Coltrane.

Excellent support of young talent
Kessoncoda may only be a two-piece, but their sound is no less impressive. The Londoners, who make do with drums and keyboards, released their debut album Outerstate in 2024, on which progressive and driving arrangements run like a red thread through the track list. Memories of London scene greats such as The Cinematic Orchestra and the Ambient Jazz Ensemble come to mind.
