On September 18, 2024, Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek invite you to a musical journey through time at Berlin’s Metropol am Nollendorfplatz. With driving grooves, the band will take you through Anatolian folk, Turkish psychedelia, jazz and pop, reviving the atmosphere of the seventies with their unique conglomerate of sounds. Although they are musically deeply rooted in the Anatolian tradition, they use a limitless sound spectrum and enrich their sound with the diverse influences of their band members from different parts of the world.

Deep emotions and captivating rhythms

Derya Yıldırım’s powerful vocals and virtuoso playing on the bağlama (also known as saz) evoke deep emotions and blend seamlessly with the progressive sounds of Grup Şimşek: Graham Mushnik, Antonin Voyant and Helen Wells bring their experience with nostalgic retro compositions and influences from the South African psychedelic scene, which they skillfully interweave with elements of jazz and pop. This year, the band is celebrating its tenth anniversary and has since become a permanent fixture whose infectious rhythms and catchy harmonies are hard to resist.
