Three years since their last album: Forever? Howlong! Black Country, New Road have not been idle, but have reinvented themselves – and radically so. On April 4, 2025, »Forever Howlong« will be released on Ninja Tune, making it clear that while their earlier sound was inextricably linked with a certain theatricality, the remaining members have broken free by playing together a lot and found a new direction that nevertheless ties in with their past.

The album swings between folk and prog – sometimes playful, sometimes enraptured, but always unmistakably Black Country, New Road. Songwriting and vocals are now spread across several shoulders and the first singles radiate a lightness that one would hardly have credited the band with after the previous album. Almost happy-peppy instead of merciless, crystal-clear exploration of our innermost depths. Have they finally shaken off the old sound? It’s not that simple – but the six are doing what they do best: reinventing themselves.
