With »Expansions«, the third album of the Hamburg-based Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band is released this July, featuring very special groovy cover versions of Grace Jones, Ike Turner, Jay-Z and Minnie Riperton.

The Hamburg based Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band around Mighty Mocambos’ Björn Wagner release after several vinyl 7inches with »Expansions« on July 16, 2021 at Big Crown the already third longplayer. The focus of their music is the use of traditional steel pans from Trinidad and Tobago, embedded in dense rhythm and wind arrangements. The tracks gathered here, however, like those on the previous releases, do not originate from the country of origin of the exotic instruments, but are genre-busting cover versions of megahits to normal album cuts from the fields of pop, reggae, hip hop, funk and jazz. Songs by artists like Grace Jones, »Hair« composer Galt MacDermot, Jay-Z, Sylvester, Ike Turner, Minnie Riperton, Erykah Badu or J Dilla are represented. Exclusively on HHV Records, the album will be available in a limited Smoke Purpage vinyl edition of 200 copies.
