Early January nd_baumecker spent two hours behind the decks at the HHV Store in Grünberger Straße in Berlin-Friedrichshain. The recording of the mix is now online.

What belongs together, comes together. This is certainly true of nd_baumecker and Berghain’s Panorama Bar. Frankfurt-born Andreas Baumecker has been shaping the euphoric and experimental sound of the Panorama Bar for many years with his musical diversity and openness, both as a resident DJ and as a booker.

He got his start as a DJ in Frankfurt in 1991, starting out in the red light bar Romantica and later working in clubs such as Dorian Grey, XS, Box and Music Hall, before being lured to Berlin in 2004 by an invitation to take over the former Panorama Bar of the newly opened Berghain club at Ostgut.

As nd_baumecker reveals in the interview, the condition for the resident deal was that he move to the city, because »the guys didn’t want to pay me for the trips anymore. So I moved to Berlin (laughs).«

Not without my Funk.

Baumecker’s musical approach is based on the principle that the surprise effect on the dance floor is the most important thing. The genre or style of the music plays a secondary role, as the DJ and producer is concerned that »whatever is played always has a bit of funk or sounds a bit like disco, regardless of the musical style«. In his opinion, the vocals are the part that leaves a lasting impression at the end of a club night. His sources of inspiration range from bands like The The to video game soundtracks.

His own music productions cover a wide range of electronic dance music, from more soulful releases such as the »Strung« EP with the duo project Barker & Baumecker, which he started in 2010 on his own label Freundinnen, to funky house with the project Snecker on Permanent Vacation.
