So vielfältig wie seine Einflüsse sich musikalisch niederschlagen, liest sich auch seine Diskografie: Seit seinem Debütalbum »Something About Frost« 2006 hat Monokle drei weitere Alben veröffentlicht, darunter eine Split-LP mit dem russischen Beatboxer Galun. Monokle’s Musik, die meistens als Downtempo Electronica beschrieben wird, erkundet ein an Einflüssen und Referenzen reiches Musikuniversum. Der Produzent aus St. Petersburg arbeitet bewusst mit Sounds aus den unterschiedlichsten Genren und hat dabei vor allem ein Interesse an den Pausen, an der Stille, die seine Produktionen durchsetzt. So ist es wenig verwunderlich, dass er Eric Satie als seinen wichtigsten Einfluss nennt.
Soeben erschien mit »Saints« sein fünftes Album auf dem Hamburger Label Ki Records. Seit seiner Gründung 2009 hat das Label sich einen Namen mit Veröffentlichung von Christian Löffler, Biodub and Steffen Kirchhoff gemacht. Monokle, den die Arbeit von Ki Records seit den erstem Release begeistert hat, fügt sich mit seiner LP harmonisch in den Katalog dieses aufstrebenden Labels ein. In unseren Ten Favourites gibt er Einblicke in die Vielfalt seiner Inspirationen und Einflüsse.

Praveen connects with a lot of sensitiveness acoustic instruments with electronic music. When listening to it you think of campfire, sparks and warm summer evenings.

I especially like the live version, these guys especially rock live. Such a performance you barely see these days, especially in the field of electronic music.

Personally I think this is the best ambient track I know of, I can listen to it forever.

My favorite composer, what else can I say. You have to listen to this! In this composition the whole story evolves.

This musician has a new and own approach to today’s music. With his own concept and character, everything sounds very original. This was my favorite long player of 2011.

I have no clue how they synchronized the voice and the percussions here… (I like to believe that this was recorded live), however the result is incredible! One of my favorite tracks ever.
7 – »Kowboyz And Indians« by Gonjasufitaken from »A Sufi And A Killer«, Warp Records 2010
Very dirty and bold sound, which does not destroy the whole work rather giving a certain charm to it. The western aesthetic is reflected in this song, I think that’s what Gonjasufi wanted to show with it.
8 – »Out Getting Ribs« by Zoo Kidtaken from »Out Getting Ribs«, House Anxiety Records 2010
Just a fantastic song, I listen to it all the time. Zoo Kid / King Krule has a very interesting acoustic color in the voice and a non-trivial way of doing guitar-music.

Psychedelic saga by the engineers of BBC.
10 – »Transit« by Fennesztaken from »Venice«, Touch 2004
Very epic track. The voice of David Sylvian just hypnotizes me!
