Wenn HipHop ein Gewissen hat, dann spricht es durch Homeboy Sandman Denn der 34-jährige hat nicht nur fünf mehr als bemerkenswerte Alben veröffentlicht und damit das kalifornische Label Stones Throw ein Stück weit geprägt, sondern auch als Kolumnist für verschiedene Medien über Rap und sein Umfeld gesprochen. Fernab vom aufgedrehten Aufmerksamkeitsdefizitsyndrom, das solche Texte sonst zeichnet, schrieb Angel Del Villar II unaufgeregt über die großen und kleinen Themen. Das machte deutlich: Homeboy Sandman hat mehr als nur das Genre verstanden. In Zeiten, in denen ständig Leute nach mehr politischem Interesse in der Popkultur rufen, stemmt er diese Verantwortung völlig selbstverständlich.

Soundtechnisch bewegt sich Homeboy Sandman auf der Linie zwischen modernen Beats und der goldenen Ära.
