Der Künstlername lässt ganze falsche Rückschlüsse über die Musik von Landon Speers zu. Der produziert unter dem Name Headaches. Und zwar nicht Punk oder Noise wie das der Moniker vermuten ließe. Tatsächlich nutzt der Kanadische Künstler (u.a. seine Fotos sind durchaus sehenswert) seine Musik für Mediationszwecke.

Zwar hat er als Headaches auch schon Dance-Singles veröffentlicht und ist als DJ für z.B. The Purity Ring unterwegs gewesen, nun aber konzertriert er seine Musik auf die ruhigen Seiten des Daseins. Sein neues Album »Aluphor« besteht komplett aus Ambient. Wie ein riesiges, glänzendes Glaskonstrukt steht das Album erst da, bevor sein Körper immer wieder zu allen Seiten morpht. Gedulige, beruhigende Musik.

Für uns hat Landon Speers eine Auswahl an Songs zusammengestellt, die ihn durch den Großstadtalltag bringen. Egal, wie groß die Stadt ist: Hier sind zehn Songs, die einen auf dem Weg durch Bahnen, Busse, Menschenmassen und ungeschickt gelegenen Einkaufsstraßen helfen. Oder, wie Speers einen Track selbst so schön beschreibt: »Puts a healthy perspective on being a human being in an urban place.«

Die Auswahl spiegelt zwei verschiedene Zustände wieder, mit denen Speers in der Stadt unterwegs ist. Uns erzählt er, dass er sich dabei entweder fühle, als würde er mit dem Verkehr schwimmen – oder gegen ihn ankämpfen müssen. Für beide Fälle hat er passende Musik als Hilfe parat.

Aside from having a wonderfully timed pulse that keeps a healthy pace going, this track also is a great melting reminder of organic, human sounds fusing with technology. Puts a healthy perspective on being a human being in an urban place.

I find this track to be particularly calming. In what can often be an absurd mess of chaos music like this spins it all in an absurdist sort of way & I’m instantly not bothered by the person that cut me off or stepped on my foot twice.

There’s a driving pulse, some thick tension and it’s tempered so nicely by this glacial beauty. I feel invisible with music like this & want to look at everything around me taking it all in as I zoom by.

Again there’s something about the feeling of anonymity that’s reenforced by this song. The vocals are really pretty & I get a bounce in my step that makes me feel like I know a secret no one else does.

Somedays you are pissy & there’s not much that can really fix it save for time. Thankfully there’s six minutes of these harsh, clinical rhythms to pound my brain into forgetting what I was feeling tense about. Also can put it on loop & walk long distances very quickly.

Many subways rides have been soundtracked by this tune. There’s motion in it reflected by the train. There’s noise in it reflected by the train & there’s a slow evolution – much like the scenes you see going from stop to stop.

Again- another great track for getting places quickly. Only this one makes me want to grab the hands of people I pass & dance with them for a minute enroute to my destination. Those god damn horns!
