With the third part of his »Transmission« series, Australian producer and label owner Kevin Griffiths a.k.a. Jura Soundsystem has once again gathered rare discs for the finale, in much the same way as he unearths them on his Isle of Jura label. The selection is an exercise in relaxation through carefully curated vibes, ranging from ambient (»The Lotus Position« by Mixmaster Morris aka The Irresistible Force), to dub from England, Australia, France and the USA (by Jamaican transplant Robert Minott, nephew of Sugar Minott), to laid-back downtempo and tribal Italo house.
Griffiths starts to drift away from the calm, steady pace towards the end, when he contributes a rarity from the South African boogie variant of Bubblegum from the band Inspiration as well as an upbeat, dubby track from the British house project Optimus. As an encore, the album features a few bonus tools made by Jura Soundsystem, which feature field recordings including the ping-pong of a table tennis game and bleating sheep. Perhaps not absolutely essential as a coda, but at least it doesn’t do any harm to the pleasingly peaceful frequencies that precede it.
